Samantha is losing all of her "accessories" today except a peripheral IV, chest tube and oxygen. Of course they will still have a couple items for following her vitals, but nothing that goes into her body like before. She is eating well and pretty alert when she wakes up. She is grouchy, though because she hates all the monitors on her and also because she likely has quite a headache. Her body is used to blood flowing down from her head into her heart where there is no pressure. Now it flows into the lungs where there is pressure which sort of "pushes back" much more than she's used to. Her nurse is staying on top of her pain with medications, but otherwise she isn't taking any more meds on a drip through an IV so that's also great progress. She may even move out of the Cardiac ICU today. The doctors are very pleased and perhaps even pleasantly surprised by her progress since her oxygen levels were so low yesterday after surgery. We are so happy she is going so well.
